The Big Adios

Just read--on Christa Faust’s blog--the sad news that Richard Widmark died on Monday. He was 93. Night and the City, Pickup on South Street, and Kiss of Death are three of my all-time favorite films, and Richard Widmark has always been one of my favorite actors. I’ll lift one for him tonight.

He lived to be 93. I know of at least one person who thought that he had left us before his actual passing. I saw a recent photo of him not long ago in the New York Times, and he was looking pretty old. He was a class act, a man with a very down-to-earth sensibility as it applied to his chosen vocation. He, and Tommy, and Skip, and Harry, all will be fondly remembered.
